The reason people should still vote SNP in Westminster is because Scotland is not independent yet and if you want people to stand up and fight for Scotland they need a party based in Scotland and who is not answerable to bosses in London. Westminster still has control of tax, banefits, oil, defence, foreign affairs, etc. Use your vote wisely, get rid of Labour and rise up against any Tory government.

Thats quite true.

As I've said in previous articles the Tories won't get 11 seats which is their target, the LibDems and Labour will also have a shaky time holding onto their current seats.

The reason I mentioned the SNP is that this article was just about them.

What we need to do is return politics to what it used to be.

There was a program on the BBC recently and it showed clips of young people in passionate debate.

What we're missing is not the processes to involve people but young people are lacking passion.

Most young people who are involved in politics are passionate, we need to share that passion, we need to get people passionate.

Hi tabithatabby. Yip, exactly. If there are enough of us to get a petition togeter and take it to parliament they will have to listen to us. If we SHOUT loud enough and stop this little man from creating another corner in the world to serve horse. His arrogance disgusts me. We are the only voice these horses have.

Okay everyone why don't we get a petition and take it to parliament and stop this little man from serving horse. Cmon, if there are enough of us they will have to listen. Get rid of the complacency and do something. If we shout loud enough government will have to listen and therefore he will have to listen!

the owner of the restaurant is very blase about the source of this meat - a lot of it does in fact come from pet ponies, like the little 15yo shetland pony ridden by children all her life, who recently ended up at one of the french fattening farms, or the new forest ponies currently there, or the many ex racehorses, ex trotters. there is also a mare who used to pull a cart at a french tourist attraction - she is hardly a farmed mare.

the horses and donkeys are not well treated, the ones that we have imported have been in poor condition, overgrown feet, covered in lice, wounds untreated, thin. they only get fed right at the end when they are going to go for slaughter, rest of the time they have to fight for food, particularly in the winter.

it is not a pleasant trade - while there are traditional meat breeds of horses in france and belgium, it is now cheaper to come to the UK sales and fill a lorry with our ex riding horses and ponies which irresponsible owners send to the sales with no concern for what is going to happen to them.

if we are going to eat horse meat in the uk - and there is certainly enough unwanted horses to supply the trade - then surely we can organise it so that the welfare of the horses is paramount. most of us don't want to know anything about the long journeys and unpleasant deaths that other meat animals suffer, but at least with horses there are other careers for them - so it is very sad that they end up being only worth the meat on their bones.

we recently imported a french donkey from the meat trade - he was in very poor condition, and he was clearly a family pet, the nicest kindest donkey in the world. this is what you will be eating.

Nobody said that we depend on horse meat to survive. That would be as ridiculous as saying we depend on squid, sheep, snails, pigeon or partridge to survive! Should we ban the consumption of them as well?

If it offends you then vote with your feet; if enough of you do that then it will soon get taken of the menu. If the restaurant owner is to believed then you'll have a long wait.

I think this is ridiculous :@ we already eat cow, pig and sheep, n we already waste that, n now horeses lives are bein taken for, not our survival, but for luxury and greed!! its completely unnecessary.

I am not surprised to read such comments from people that belong to an english-speaking country where culturally horse meat is considered taboo food. In the past wild horses formed an important source of food.

[As horses are relatively poor converters of grass and grain to meat compared to cattle, they are not usually bred or raised specifically for their meat. Instead, horses are slaughtered when their other value as riding or work animals is low, as for example in the routine export of the southern English ponies from the New Forest, Exmoor, and Dartmoor. British law requires the use of "equine passports" even for semi-wild horses to enable traceability (also known as "provenance"), so most slaughtering is done in the UK before the meat is exported, meaning that the animals travel "on the hook, not on the hoof" (as carcasses rather than live). Since when did this nation depend on horse meat to survive?

I think if you check back over the centuries you will find that the horse has been mans partner through war, has been invaluable on the farms, worked down pits and is a vital member of the police force. These are just a few jobs the horse has done for man over the centuries. This is how they are repaid?

Some restaurant owner in Edinburgh decides that he will create controversy and some publicity for his restaurant by serving horse. This may happen in certain parts of Europe but I never thought I would see this happening here.

The restaurant owner also stated that he could not keep up with demand for it. This man is provoking emotion by making statements like that.

The fact is, they they kill dolpin in Japan because there is a demand, they eat dog in China. I do not think there are many of us who would believe this to be acceptable. Why is it acceptable that horse should be served up on a plate?

I think the only people who could believe this to be acceptable are people who have never been around horses or worked with them to know what wonderful intelligent creatures they are and it breaks my heart to think of the raw deal served up to them by man.

I hope you are reading this Mr Salmond and do something about this!

Just because you are a horse lover, it would be wrong to assume that everyone shares your views and should be forbidden from eating horse meat.

If that were the case, it would only take a few pig, cow, chicken and haddock lovers to reduce the nation's diets to only lentils and sunflow seeds!

Disgusting! I am a horse lover and I find it disgusting that their are civilised people who will eat horse! These horse are transported under cruel conditions to their slaughter somewhere in Europe. I am shocked to find my own country has decided to allow this to be served up! I will do everything I can to stop this. What are they going to serve next, Dog?

I think the Quiet Scottish, Susan Boyle, deserves what ever may come her way to enjoy. Having a learning disability she thinks she has, has nothing to do with her Up and Coming life. My hubby, kids and grand kids all have a learning disability, they said none of them to bright. Well those people were very mistaken. They were so much smarter like Susan, in other things, and Susans was giving the gift of music, and the sound of an Angel to share with us. Your Mother is dancing in Heaven. Love you Susan.

dear mr salmond I would like to ask if the labour party is asking that if you carry a knife you should get 6 months in prison at a cost of £80 million .I would to suggest if you are caught yes give them 6 months but make parents pay for there time & if they dont pay tax them more if they work or take it of unemployment benefit or if they dont pay that reduce benefits as they are in jail anyway & theywont be feeding them thanks steve
